Helmets helmet helmets! If there is one tip out there that has proven research to help reduce motorcycle fatalities, it is wearing a helmet.
But where do you start? Here are some main tips below for selecting a helmet. But don’t stop there! There are many resources out there to consider. The Motorcycle Safety Foundation provides much more detail on choosing helmets or visit your local motorcycle dealership for more assistance trying on helmets. Helmet Selection Tips:
- Protection and comfort should be your main priority! Color and designs should come later. Many different types of helmet coverage range from a full face, three-quarter, and open-face. Guess which one provides the most protection? If you selected full-face you are correct!
- Get a size that fits! Use a chart like the following one to help guide your helmet selection. Measure your head at the largest point which is the point above your eyebrows. Check it a couple of times to make sure you have received your largest measurement. If you are between sizes, contact the manufacture of the helmet you are looking at for more guidance.
